How can I add this oil to my skincare routine?

Use AbsoluteJOI Skin Refining Night Oil as the final step in your nighttime routine to seal in moisture for your skin. You can use it on top of your moisturizer, or in place of a moisturizer depending on your skin’s needs.

Place 5-8 drops in the palm of your hands, rub them together to warm the oil, then gently pat the oil into your skin.

I have used retinol in the past and it made my skin peel. Will that happen to me with this oil?

We use Granactive Retinoid, a next generation form of retinol designed to minimize the irritation and flakey skin associated with retinol use, while delivering the skin benefits of this effective ingredient. By adding retinol to our oil, we are offering you all its skin refining benefits, without the flakes.

What are the ethical and sustainable processes of the products?

The short answer about ethical and sustainability practices is we are trying but not perfect. Here are the answers to most questions:

    • Our founder, Dr. Anne eats a plant-based diet, and as an extension of her practices, all of our products are derived from plant sources. We do not use any animal sources or animal testing in developing our products.
    • We selected our manufacturer because they are ISO 14001 compliant, which means they measure and improve the impact of their manufacturing activities on the environment..
    • Where we want to improve is on our packaging. We do not use glass because we want shatter proof bottles as our products tend to be used in bathrooms. Also, glass is heavier to ship so the overall carbon impact of shipping glass is greater than plastics. Our Night Oil bottles are not recyclable, yet. We produce our products in small batches, are still working to find manufacturers who can sell us small amounts of recyclable bottles at a reasonable price.
    • Our cleansers are in bottles made from 10% post-consumer plastic. We are looking for options that contain more post-consumer waste, but the bottles must remain clear so our customers can see the contents.
    • We are happy to say our new Moisturizer with Mineral Sunscreen launching in February will be in tubes that are 100% recyclable.

As a company, we are committed to doing business in a way that is ethical and sustainable. In the areas where we have more control (eg the formulas we develop) we have been very successful in adhering to our standards. In other areas where we have less control (eg sourced packaging), we are still working to get to where we want.

How much retinol is in your oil?

We use 2% Granactive Retinoid in our Skin Refining Night Oil.

How does your oil work with someone's skin that is oily? Wouldn't this make my skin even more oily?

It may seem counterintuitive, but adding oil to your skincare routine actually reduces your skin’s daytime oiliness. One of our blog entries explains how: “People with oily skin are most skeptical of the suggestion to put oil on your face. However, using face oils can have the unexpected effect of reducing your oil production. Jojoba oil is very good for oily skin because its structure is very similar to your own natural sebum. As a result, it does not clog pores, and reduces over-production of oil because your skin is already oil balanced with the jojoba oil.” You can read the entire blog entry by clicking here.

How long will it take for my order to arrive?

All orders ship within 1-2 business days via US Postal Service First Class Mail, and you will be sent a tracking number for your order. Delivery is usually within 3-5 business days. Expedited shipping is available at cost. Free shipping is available for orders over $100. Shipping costs are non-refundable.

A lot of face oils come in bottles with droppers. Why does your oil use a pump?

By offering this oil in a pump, the effectiveness of the oil is retained without adding preservatives. A pump helps reduce the amount of air that comes into contact with your oil. This product is a lightweight blend of natural oils with enriching fatty acids, combined with added antioxidants and no unnatural preservatives. The fatty acids and antioxidants become less effective when they come into repeated contact with air.

Other oils come in clear or brown bottles. Why is your bottle white?

Products with retinol should be stored in bottles that block ultraviolet light because the light degrades retinol, making it lose its potency. Although these bottles cost more, it is designed to reduce exposure of our oil to light to retain its effectiveness.

Why can't I simply use a basic face oil like jojoba, which also costs a lot less?

Jojoba is an excellent hydrating oil and is one of the ingredients in our Night Oil. We have added other skin refining oils like evening primrose, moringa, rose hip, and argan to provide a blend of oils that deliver a range of benefits for your skin. In addition, the retinol, vitamin C and vitamin E actives are next generation, high quality and highly effective ingredients designed for maximum absorption and benefit for your skin. This combination of ingredients is more than you could find in a single natural oil, and can be used as a simple final step in your nighttime routine.

When will other products from AbsoluteJoi Skincare become available?

We are launching our new Daily Hydrating Moisturizing Cream with SPF 40 Mineral Sunscreen in February, 2021. This tinted moisturizer will be available in two colors so it blends with all skin types and offers healthy mineral sunscreen that does not leave a white cast.

Last year, we released our Bundle of JOI: The Ultimate Cleansing Kit,  which includes an oil cleanser, foaming gel cleanser and a toner for an easy introduction to double cleansing. Those products will now be availabe in individual larger sized bottles.

Lastly, because so many customers have asked about hyperpigmentation we'll be working on a Vitamin C serum, a natural spot treatment for hyperpigmentation and an exfoliating treatment.
